How is your current life balance? How’s your vision for your future?
What navigation plan do you have to help you choose and stay on a course?
Here’s a tool to help you take your place at the helm so you can create a life you love.
The Helm of Your Life, Love and Wellness
Let’s look closer at the helm, or steering wheel, to gain an overview….
The Outer Part of the Helm
The outer part of the helm is made up of many elements: lifestyle, work/career, environment, outlook, support, quality relationships, partnership, romance, family, personal growth, self-image, self-care, mental health and physical health. The outer part represents elements that affect your health and well-being directly, for example your lifestyle, stress, food, rest, hydration, food, movement, finances, etc.
The Base of the Helm
The base of the helm is made up of three elements: Core Beliefs, Core Connections and Core Values. The base represents internal elements which affect your spirit, sense of purpose, emotions, mindset, and motivations. These elements affect health and well-being indirectly because they are not usually the first things a person considers when they want to achieve a goal or healthy lifestyle, but they do affect you at your core.
Putting It All Together
Both the inner and outer parts play significant roles in creating a truly healthy, holistic lifestyle.
Keep in mind, the elements do not act alone. Often one element impacts another.
This tool is meant to help us understand how the elements of our life are interconnected and how we can approach our life holistically to create lasting changes that impact our overall life rather than quick fixes that are achieved by only looking at one element in isolation.
Our health and well-being is affected by all areas of our life. Having a holistic perspective when you look at yourself will help you to see this interconnection between all parts.
We are whole beings with a variety of influences upon our being and multiple facets to ourselves.
When we change one area of our life, we often see other areas change. When we struggle in one area, we often see a direct impact upon another area.
Knowing how everything is connected, we can better prepare ourselves for creating more balance and lasting changes.
Additionally, we are all unique and have unique needs. What works for one person may not work for another, simply because one element of their life is different.
The good news is, you don’t have to do advanced testing to figure out why you’re different. You can simply take a holistic approach in your self-examination to find out what is in balance and what is out of balance and make small changes to reach your goals.
For some, looking at this helm can be overwhelming. There appears to be a lot to consider in our lives!
Take a deep breath, I’ve created another tool to help you easily complete a holistic self-examination so you can start your own personal wellness journey.
Introducing the Stark Wellness Holistic Wellness Inventory
I created a Holistic Wellness Inventory to help you take a good look at various elements of your life and see where you’re doing great and where you might want a boost.
I also created a helpful guide to walk you through completing the wellness inventory and using your results in positive ways.
How to Use the Holistic Wellness Inventory Guide
You can view the PDF Guide online or print it. The guide explains plenty of options for using the tool as you view it online or if you choose to print it out.
When you consider your wellness indicators on the final worksheet, think of your wellness journey as a snowball. Each person’s journey is unique.
You may want to form a new, small snowball, making a couple changes to your lifestyle. You may then find your snowball continues to build and build, and within a year’s time, you have a completely new way of living.
Or you might start rolling your snowball as fast as you can down a big hill, anxious to make as many changes as possible.
Be aware of the “wellness snowball” as you try new things, and recognize that your journey can evolve at your own pace.
Each element on the list represents an opportunity to build your snowball larger and larger, and you can set the pace for which it grows.
If you feel like you need to make some changes in your life, these two tools will ensure a strong foundation for your success.
Your next step would be to set up a few goals for yourself and an implementation plan. You can find guidance for setting and achieving goals in these other articles:
