Here is your guide to overcoming self-sabotage and understanding your inner motivations and natural tendencies so that you can finally align with your truth and be confident in achieving your goals.
A – Acknowledge where you are in your journey.
You’re hardly ever starting from ground zero. Before you head off to try something new or change a part of your lifestyle, acknowledge and give yourself credit for where you are right now. What have you accomplished so far? What could you celebrate and affirm for yourself before you ask yourself to jump into new water?
Acknowledge what you’ve accomplished.
Fifty pounds overweight? Pat yourself on the back for making some good choices and not letting yourself be 75 pounds overweight.
Hoping to rekindle your marriage? Congratulations for staying committed and sticking with it so far.
Trying to rise from depression or escape an anxiety hold? Take a moment to relish in the action your taking right now reading this.
You’re not a failure who needs to overhaul your entire life. You’re a human being worthy of love, respect, and admiration. So give yourself these things and celebrate all that you have accomplished so far in this tough game of life.

R – Reframe your thoughts about change.
Changing something about your life is not about compromising on your truth or resentfully meeting anyone else’s expectations. It doesn’t have to be deprivation or struggle.
It’s choosing YOU. It’s getting clear about your values and what an authentic life would be like for you.
Connect with yourself, open your mind, and listen to your body, heart and spirit.
- What do you want to adjust in your outer life to have harmony within?
- What steps do you want to take so that you feel alignment and congruence in your life?
- What goals do you truly want to set and achieve?
True and lasting change doesn’t come from trying to please others or from fear of what others might think, say or do. It comes from listening to your own inner voice and your own higher power. It comes from paying attention to what path your intuition is leading you to and making space for new and better.
You have freedom with change. Change doesn’t bind you. It gives you an opportunity to find great satisfaction. Rest your thoughts, accept the opportunity of change, and be accountable to it.
This is how you set and achieve goals.

T – Think positively.
I don’t mean having faith in yourself, although that is extremely important. I mean setting your goals with positive intentions. Instead of telling yourself to stop doing something, decide what you need to start doing differently.
Goals to lose, stop, get rid of, reduce, quit, etc., are not motivating and lead to a restrictive and punishing mindset, which never works long-term.
Goals are meant to help us experience our lives more fully and with more pleasure.
So instead, make positive, practical declarations that you will be motivated to achieve. Consider what values you hold around your health, personal development, relationships, etc.
When a decision, or a mindset has developed around a passion or a positive belief, that’s GOLDEN. When mindset is driven by negative thoughts and beliefs, that is bleak and self-sabotaging.
Think about what could be available for you.
What could be next for you?
What’s going to move you forward and out of the rut you’ve fallen into?
